This exciting course will guide students from the sketchbook study to the finished canvas. Beginning with a video tutorial and an email brief students will then work both on location and in the studio to explore different themes and develop their own approaches to composing figurative paintings.  On location, students will gather information using a variety of drawing media : charcoal, ink, pencil/oil bar oil pastels and collage - and in the studio different techniques will be demonstrated. Students will develop their studies into painted compositions at home during the week with advice and feedback offered via email.

A recent location was the Union Canal at Lochrin Basin. Our model held 30 minute 'canal worker' poses and the students were introduced to working in ink and wash - first with line and then with tonal starts.
